Chapter OneEH

From our fictional first-person memoir

A Place at My Own Table

“I left behind books, a bicycle, and people who could understand a sentence before I finished it. In my suitcase I put photographs, documents, a sweater I would discover was much too thin, and the book with my teacher’s number inside.”

Questions, answered

Designed to feel easy from the first call.

Can I buy this for myself?

Yes. Choose “My own story” after checkout. There is no gift recipient or gift date to enter. You use the same consent-based call-in interviews, private photo uploads, and story review.

Do I need an app or writing experience?

No writing experience or app download is required. Use an ordinary telephone for the interviews. Your web portal holds consent, call-in instructions, your private interview code, photographs, and book review. A family member can help with these online steps.

What if an interview is interrupted?

Return to the secure portal for the current interview status and call-in instructions. If they cannot reconnect, contact hello@dearlytoldstories.com for help. Keep the interview code private.

Who conducts the interviews?

A clearly identified AI interviewer guides each conversation and asks thoughtful follow-up questions. Calls are recorded only with the storyteller’s consent.

How much time will I need?

The package includes six calls of up to 25 minutes each: up to 2½ hours of interview time, spread across conversations at your own pace. Allow additional time for setup, choosing photographs, and reviewing your manuscript. You may stop early, pause, or skip questions.

Who is this best for?

It is designed for an adult who is comfortable speaking by telephone and wants to preserve their memories. A family member may help with scheduling, photographs, and review.

What do I provide at checkout and afterward?

Checkout asks for payment and your contact information. Your secure setup afterward lets you choose your own story or a gift, add storyteller details and a mailing address, and set contact timing. Gift recipients are not contacted before the date you authorize. Story details and photographs are collected privately.

What if there are subjects they do not want to discuss?

They may skip any question, mark stories private, or remove material during review. The storyteller controls what becomes part of the book.

Can family members contribute?

Yes. One family contact can gather photographs, verify names and dates, and suggest memories worth asking about without taking control away from the storyteller.

How does the 30-day money-back guarantee work?

If you are not satisfied for any reason, request a full refund within 30 calendar days of purchase. The guarantee applies even if interviews or printing have begun. Email hello@dearlytoldstories.com from your purchase email address with your order reference. Read the refund policy for details.

Will the finished book arrive by Christmas?

You can prepare a personalized printable gift announcement after checkout and setup. The finished book follows your six interviews, photo upload, and final approval. We estimate delivery within 30 days after final manuscript and photo approval; this is not a guaranteed Christmas arrival date. Email hello@dearlytoldstories.com before purchasing if a particular date is essential.

What do I receive?

Your approved autobiography with the photographs you provide, bound as one hardcover book. The $249 package includes six guided phone interviews, writing and layout, one consolidated revision round, final approval, and the hardcover copy. Gift buyers can also prepare a printable announcement after setup.
