Privacy policy

Your family’s story stays theirs.

This policy explains what we collect, why we use it, and the choices available to purchasers and storytellers.

Information we collect

We collect the information needed to create and deliver a biography: purchaser and storyteller contact details, scheduling preferences, family relationships, dedication and story notes, interview recordings and transcripts, photographs, manuscript feedback, shipping details, and service communications.

For Family Bundle recipients, the purchaser may provide a name, email address, and shipping address so we can coordinate delivery. We do not use that recipient email for marketing or personalized advertising unless the recipient separately chooses those options on their private page.

Stripe processes payment-card information. We receive limited payment information such as payment status, amount, currency, customer email, and a checkout reference; we do not receive or store complete card numbers.

Our public marketing pages use the Meta Pixel to measure page visits and when someone begins checkout. Meta may receive device and browser information, the page viewed, and the event time under its own privacy terms. We do not send interview content, photographs, private gift pages, payment-card details, or questionnaire answers through this tool.

Optional purchase measurement

If you choose the optional purchase-measurement checkbox during gift setup, we send Meta the verified purchase amount, currency, event time, browser type, and a SHA-256 hashed version of the purchaser email for ad matching. Hashing does not make the email anonymous: Meta may match it to an account. The event uses a generic public page URL and an opaque event identifier. We do not send storyteller or recipient details, shipping addresses, questionnaire answers, story material, photographs, private links, or card information in this event. This choice is off by default and is not required to complete your order. You may decline it and contact us about your privacy choices; data already received by Meta is subject to its privacy terms.

When you request the free story-question guide, we store your email, optional first name, and marketing preferences to fulfill the request. The requested guide email does not require marketing consent. Promotional follow-up requires a separate choice.

How we use information

We use information to confirm orders, obtain consent, schedule and conduct interviews, prepare and revise the biography, collect photographs, produce and ship the book, provide support, prevent misuse, keep business records, and understand which first-party marketing campaigns lead families to the service.

AI-assisted service

A clearly identified AI interviewer may guide conversations, and AI systems may assist with transcription, organization, and first drafts. AI output is treated as draft material. The storyteller can correct, remove, or withhold material before the book is approved.

Recording and storyteller control

Interview recording begins only after the storyteller is informed and gives consent. The storyteller may pause or stop, skip any subject, mark material private, request corrections, or decline to include material in the book. A purchaser cannot override the storyteller’s decision about their own interview content.

When information is shared

We share information only as needed with providers that help operate the service, such as payment, hosting, email, communications, transcription or AI, printing, and shipping providers; when a storyteller authorizes a family member; or when required to protect rights, safety, or comply with law. We do not sell family stories, recordings, photographs, or contact information.

Retention and deletion

We retain order and production records for as long as reasonably needed to deliver the service, maintain the family’s private materials, resolve disputes, meet legal obligations, and prevent fraud. A purchaser or storyteller may request access, correction, or deletion. Some records may need to be retained for legal, accounting, security, or transaction purposes.

Security and children

We use access controls and private links intended to limit access to family materials. No system can promise absolute security, so private links should not be posted publicly. Dearly Told is designed for adult purchasers and adult storytellers and is not directed to children.

Policy changes

If this policy changes materially, the updated version and effective date will appear here. Changes do not reduce a storyteller’s control over previously submitted private material without notice.
